Column cross-section geometry
For rectangular columns, volume equals width × depth × height. For circular columns, volume equals π × radius² × height. Keep all dimensions in consistent units before calculating.
Cement bags vs ready-mix truck
Small columns can be poured using bagged concrete mixes (e.g., 60 lb or 80 lb bags), while larger structural columns require ready-mix truck delivery. The calculator helps evaluate how many bags or cubic meters/yards are needed.
Formwork pressure and bracing
Wet concrete exerts significant lateral pressure on column forms. Ensure adequate bracing, ties, and form strength to prevent blowouts during placement and vibration.
- Calculate cross-sectional area and multiply by height.
