Define the tributary area from the actual framing layout. A beam, joist, column, wall, or footing can each have a different load share.
Separate dead load components such as slabs, finishes, partitions, roofing, and self-weight from occupancy or environmental live loads.

What is a tributary area?
Tributary area is the portion of a floor, roof, or surface whose load is assigned to a particular supporting member. The geometry depends on the framing layout and support conditions.
What is the difference between service and factored load?
Service load uses the stated dead and live loads without load factors. The factored estimate applies 1.2 to dead load and 1.6 to live load as a common preliminary LRFD combination; the governing code and project criteria may differ.
Can this result replace a structural design?
