Gypsum-board selection starts with a specific project requirement, then with the current product documentation for the selected panel. The cited manufacturers publish different panel categories, including Type X and moisture- or mold-resistant products. Those categories are useful for making a shortlist, but they do not by themselves establish a wall or ceiling assembly, a fire-resistance rating, code compliance, or suitability for every wet location.

USG identifies its cited 5/8-inch EcoSmart Firecode X product as an interior Type X panel and lists moisture resistance as no. Gold Bond describes its cited XP board as moisture- and mold-resistant and directs users to a Fire-Shield product where an approved component in a UL fire-rated design is required. Georgia-Pacific cautions that a fire-tested or labeled product does not itself mean that a particular assembly will deliver a specified performance in an actual fire.

For any fire, acoustic, moisture, impact, exterior, or code-regulated condition, identify the required assembly and follow the documents for the exact panel, framing, fasteners, joints, penetrations, finishes, and installation sequence. Do not substitute a product because its color, trade name, or category sounds similar. The responsible designer, installer, inspector, or qualified local professional should resolve a system decision before materials are ordered.
